The fate of Chile's F-16 fighter fleet has been awaited for some time. the trend seems to be that of increasing this fleet. At the moment what is concrete is the approval by the USA of an update program estimated at more than 630 million dollars.

Chile operates 44 aircraft of this model and the modernizations will be significant, with emphasis on the vision system integrated with the helmet designated JHMCS (Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System), integrated systems GPS / INS LN-260 and communications systems MIDS / JTRS (Multifunctional Information Distribution System / Joint Tactical Radio).

The Chilean fleet consists of 10 new Block 50 aircraft purchased and the rest were sold by the Dutch armed forces.
