The airport of São Benedito, in Ceará, was the scene, on November 11, 2019, of a long-term flight that established an impressive mark of distance covered in a real challenge of resistance of man and machine.
The feat was carried out by pilots Sergio Andrade and Silvio Masiero, both also engineers.
The two pilots achieved the feat of flying for more than 10 and a half hours, always driving their aircraft solely through winds and thermal currents, strong and abundant in the Northeast due to the hot and humid climate.
At the end of the journey, the two aviators had traveled no less than 1,100 kilometers, connecting São Benedito, Campos Sales, União, Granja and returning to São Benedito. Of these cities, two (União and Granja) are located in Piaui and the others in the state of Ceará.

This flight obeys international parameters of the sport, namely the FAI triangle (from Federation Aeronautique Internationale) which determines dimensions and proportions that must be obeyed for the record to be recognized.
The flight departed from the airport Walfrido Salmito de Oliveira, administered by the state of Ceará, which has a support structure for general and sports aviation, with a 1500 m by 30 m wide paved runway. It also has a passenger terminal and capacity for night operation.
The flight occurring in this region is no coincidence. Located in the Serra do Ibiapaba, also known as Serra Grande, the region is the scene of adequate atmospheric conditions for the practice of volleyball, which also includes the flights of paragliders and hang gliders.
It is interesting to note that the record was broken but the record holder is the same as before. After all, the previous brand belonged to Sergio Andrade himself, together with the pilot Itamar Lessa.
They had flown about 1005 kilometers in an hour and twenty-one minutes, originating from the same airport but describing a different triangle.
Passionate about the sport, Sergio says he is fascinated by long-haul flights and his achievements are recognized by the Brazilian Aerodesport Commission (CAB), an entity that represents FAI in Brazil.
