Russian Naval Aviation this month received the first of three Beriev Be-200ChS planes, an amphibious twin-engine jet for missions primarily to fight major fires.
The aviation was named Aleksandr Mámkim, a hero of the times of the Soviet Union. During the Nazi occupation, Aleksandr was the pilot who evacuated some 200 children and workers from an orphanage in Polotsk, a city now located in Belarus.
The Be-200 can transport up to 12 tons of water in its fire-fighting missions, and can be quickly refilled by just landing on a river or lake and during the race for the rush your tanks are quickly loaded with the water that passes under Your belly".
However it can also take about 72 people on missions of any kind.
With about 32 meters in length, 22 wingspan and a maximum weight (MTOW) of 41 thousand Kg, the aircraft has a size equivalent to that of a modern regional jet.
