The Concorde was one of the most iconic names when it comes to supersonic aircraft for passenger transport. Aerion Corporation plans to launch the AS2, a supersonic jet designed for business aviation, which promises to fly from New York to London in just four and a half hours.
The aircraft will be able to fly at speeds above 1600 km / h (mach 1.4) and with a range of 10,000 km, it promises more fuel economy and less noise, due to the more aerodynamic design. It is worth remembering that these factors were the main reasons for discontinuing the concorde flights in 2004. Supersonic speeds will be reached thanks to the three Affinity engines, from GE Aviation with a thrust of 20,000 lbf each.

To achieve this greater efficiency, the airplane has systems such as the "boomless cruise", which is a system where the enormous noise when it crosses the sound barrier will be dispersed into the atmosphere so as not to be heard: “we will have the first aircraft of the story that can fly at supersonic speed, and nobody on the ground will hear the boom, ”said Tom Vice, CEO of Aerion.
The aircraft will also be less polluting than the Concorde, as it promises not to depend on fossil fuels - the fuel used will be synthetic. The AS2 will also not have a post-combustion system, where the fuel is injected directly into the exhaust of the engines, promoting greater thrust and acceleration.

With the wind tunnel tests already concluded and with some companies interested in the novelty, such as Boeing and GE, which are supporting the project, the first flight is revised for 2024.
The company is building its headquarters in Florida and the production of this aircraft should start in 2023. The company also intends to produce, in addition to AS2, hybrid aircraft in the future.
