Last Friday, April 9, the first prototype of the KF-21 Boramae fighter was rolled out, which was born from the KF-X program. The presentation of the jet, which was developed locally by the manufacturer Korea Aerospace Industries, was held at the company's headquarters in Sacheon and key South Korean officials attended.
The jet is the second production and development of a supersonic stealth fighter across the country, with the T-50 / F-50 Golden Eagle the first.

Boramae (falcon, in Korean) is a jet considered equivalent to the latest model of F-16.
"Finally, we have our own supersonic jet fighter," said President Moon Jae-in, who participated in the rollout. "We have opened a new era of self-defense and established a historic milestone for the development of the aviation industry." The president also said that 40 model jets are available to air forces by 2028 and another 80 units by 2032, totaling more than 100 aircraft of this model.
Visually, the fighter looks like a fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighter from Lockheed Martin, but the KF-21 has less stealth capacity, so the manufacturer itself describes it as being 4.5 th generation. With a maximum weight of 25 and a half tons and with 10 attachment points for armaments and sensors, the fighter can reach Mach 1.8 (2222 km / h) with its two F414 engines designed by General Eletric.

KF-X is a program in partnership between South Korea and Indonesia. Indonesia joined the project in 2010, although it has yet to formalize its requests.
Initially designed by the Koreans, the fighter to be developed would be 5th generation with stealth resources. Expecting that the costs of this project would be very high, the requirements were lowered at the request of the South Korean Air Force itself, which requested a 4.5 generation fighter with limited stealth capacity.
The new fighter will replace the old fleet of F-4 and F-5 jets, which have been in service for over 40 years.
The fighter must have up to 65% of parts manufactured in the national territory, with the production and local development of the radar (of the AESA type), software, sensors and flight control computers.
