The AGM-183 ARRW (Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon) missile from Lockheed Martin was designed to achieve and maintain hypersonic speeds. The maximum speed is at Mach 10 and the range is 1600 km.

The prototype was made to be launched from the B-52 Stratofortress bomber, however the test failed and the plane ended up returning to the base with the missile still connected.

The B-52 went to the Point Mugu shooting range, southwest of Los Angeles, to test. Due to a propeller failure, the test was unsuccessful. The test aimed to demonstrate the propellant's ability to achieve hypersonic speeds and to evaluate the safe separation of the B-52.

With the test failing, the United States remains behind Russia with regard to hypersonic armaments, since Russia already produces the Kh47M2 Kinzhal, which reaches speeds between Mach 10 and Mach 12 and its range reaches 2000 km.

The MiG 31 and the Tu-22M are capable of firing the weapon. In the future, the Su-57 is also expected to adopt the missile. The first targets could be the aircraft carriers of the US Navy.
