UAC (United Aircraft Corporation), a Russian aviation company, introduced the new IL-96-300, a four-engine plane that had its inaugural flight on April 9 and which will soon be delivered to the Russian government. According to FlightGlobal, the aviation news website, the new aircraft will be used as a platform for special operations.

According to UAC, the new aircraft, which is the successor to the Il-86, has some novelties, such as a more modern flight and navigation system, in addition to a new type of paint that offers greater protection to the fuselage.
The Il-96-300 flew for the first time in September 1988, but only started to be operated in fact in 1992, and today there are about 30 aircraft manufactured of this model. It is a smaller aircraft than its predecessor, Il-86, but with a longer range.
The operations of this aircraft model have been reduced due to its high fuel consumption, but despite this, UAC still invests in four-engine aircraft, and is currently designing the Il-96-400M, similar to the Il-96-300, but more modern and with greater capacity, despite maintaining the use of PS-90 turbofan engines.
