The road transport company Itapemirim, which also intends to become an airline, started its first technical flights last week. The company is looking for its ANAC certificate as an aeronautical operator and is currently in the last phase of this process, having already managed to obtain landing and takeoff times at the main airports in the country. The company has ordered nine Airbus A320 aircraft and its fleet has an average age of 15 years.
In addition to the deep crisis in the aviation sector that the entire world faces, Itapemirim has also been facing a judicial recovery process since 2016, which generates distrust on the part of the market regarding this investment. In addition, the dispute between the current and the former owner of the company and changes that have occurred in the entire business plan are other reasons for the uncertainties in the market.
Another point that also drew attention and raised doubts was the issue of investors. Sidnei Piva, the president of the Itapemirim group, said in February 2020 that they would count on an investment of US $ 500 million by the private fund of a family of sheikhs from the United Arab Emirates, Al Maktoum. However, such investment was not confirmed and, when approached, the company replied that it cannot disclose the investors involved, as the contracts are confidential.

EXM Partners, Itapemirim's judicial administrator, published a report in March, stating that it requested details about the company's expenses and investments, but the group said that, due to market secrecy, it could not provide more information.
To circumvent these suspicions, the company says it will bet on strategies such as offering connections between Brazilian capitals at competitive prices and, according to the press office, promoting a differentiated service to passengers. In a note, the press office stated: "In short, it is the person, eye to eye, that we will prioritize among all employees and passengers".
The project continues to advance, despite controversies, and the company has already hired 400 employees, according to the press office. The company is awaiting the ANAC certificate and does not yet have a date to start commercial flights.
