ANAC data show that the aviation sector continues to be affected by the crisis

On April 23, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) published data on the first quarter of 2021. The data released show a retraction in the main indicators in relation to the same period last year.
In March of this year, there was a 32.5% retraction in the demand measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers paid (RPK), for flights in the domestic market in comparison with the same period of 2020.
Adding to the first three months of 2021, the drop is 32.4% in the indicator. The supply of flights in the domestic market calculated in Average Seat Kilometers (ASK) also decreased by 27.2% in March and by 18.5% in the accumulated of the first three months.

The number of passengers on domestic flights also decreased by 37.8% in the first quarter of this year when compared to the first quarter of 2020.
However, the cargo and mail market in the domestic market showed positive numbers this month, but, when looking at the indicator for the entire quarter, there was also a 10% retraction when compared to the same period last year.
With regard to market share, Azul was the company that led, with 40.7%, and the only one to show growth, with an increase of 11.2%. The average occupation of aircraft in the domestic market was 66.7%, a reduction of 7.2% compared to the same month of 2020.

The international aviation market was even more affected, since these flights suffered the most from restrictions against the spread of the covid 19. In March, demand and supply decreased by 81.5% and 60.4%, respectively. In the accumulated result for the quarter, the retraction is even greater, with 83.7% in demand and 67.8% in supply.
