ANAC, the National Civil Aviation Agency, and the manufacturers of ALE, light sports aircraft, created a study group to expand and assess the current standards of the category, evaluating the possibility of applying such standards to larger aircraft, since, currently, according to the standards of ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials) and RBAC (Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulation), only aircraft that have up to 600 kg of maximum takeoff weight, or 650 kg if it is an amphibious aircraft , and a maximum capacity of two people. The group's objective is that the category may include larger planes.

At first, the study group will last three months and is scheduled to start in May.

Currently, most of the aircraft in this sector do not meet the established standards, and such an expansion would provide greater security to the category, in addition to also offering a favorable scenario for the development of the Brazilian light aircraft industry.

The meetings will take place regularly, and will be composed of ANAC employees and representatives of the ALE manufacturers. The results will be sent to the Regulatory Agency to await approval.
