According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, an undisclosed quantity of the new Su-35S fighters will be sent to the Southern Military District of the country, where they will be operated, including in Crimea and the Caucasus. The fighters are part of the squadron of the 31st Millerovo Combat Aviation Regiment.

For military expert Viktor Murakhovsky, the receipt of the fighters by the Military District of Southern Russia represents a consolidation of the group that is being formed. "This grouping makes it possible to restrict the activity of NATO countries in the region by non-strategic and non-nuclear means.
It is no secret that the [Atlantic] Alliance engages its activities in the strategic southwest and south directions, not only in the bloc countries, but also actively cooperates with Ukraine and Georgia. In fact, every day, reconnaissance planes and drones from the countries of the Atlantic Alliance are close to our air borders over the Black Sea, near Crimea and on the Caucasus coast, "he said.
According to him, Russia needs to move in the face of this and needs an increase in its forces to prevent possible NATO affronts and aggressions, which is therefore the reason why the Southern Military District Air Force is receiving the fighters.
The SU-35S is a fighter capable of attacking, in addition to aerial targets, land targets, with anti-ship weapons and a powerful radar. The aircraft will feature KAB-500Kr bombs, guided by television, guided missiles Kh-29TD and anti-ship missiles Kh-35U, modified for ground attacks.
As for the radar, it is the Irbis N035, capable of detecting airplanes 400 kilometers away and stealth missiles 100 kilometers, behind only the radar of the Su-57. In addition, thanks to engines with three-dimensional thrust vector control and an advanced control system, the fighter will be able to perform unusual aerial combat maneuvers.
Currently, the Southern Military District operates only Su-30SM fighters. According to the Izvestia newspaper, the pilots have already started training to operate the Su-35S.
