Airbus said in a press conference, during the announcement of the financial results, that the new A350 freighter intends to overcome the "monopoly" of Boeing's 777F in the sector.

Airbus' executive director, Guillaume Faury, said: “Today, in the double aisle segment, we are not a major player in the cargo market. Our main competitor is almost exclusive in this segment, so we are looking at this niche very carefully.
We do not like the idea that we do not operate in this segment and this is probably an area in which we will be more aggressive and invest to move forward. (...) We have the products to be more aggressive with this in the future. It is not clear when [our offer] will arrive ”.
According to information from Cirium, a company specialized in aviation data and analysis, Airbus only delivered 38 cargo planes in total. The manufacturer only has a passenger plane adapted for the cargo version, the A330-200F. Boeing, which has a line of freighter widebody aircraft, delivered more than 732 cargo planes.
However, in the used aircraft market, for some time now, some companies have been launching versions of the A320 and A321 adapted to serve the cargo sector, giving Airbus a greater share in that sector. But the expectation is that with the company's new planes, there may be a real dispute with Boeing for the role of the air cargo sector.
The importance of being present in this segment is due to several factors, among which the potential for growth and its positive reaction in the context of the pandemic deserve to be highlighted.
