Venezuelan police found drugs on TAP freighter that would fly to Lisbon

On Wednesday, May 5, Venezuelan police found drugs in the fuselage of a TAP aircraft that was preparing to depart for Lisbon. The discovery was made through an operation with sniffer dogs at the airport in Caracas.

The aircraft, an A330neo, was inspected and the dogs that participated in the operation were from Division 43 of the military police, the Bolivarian National Guard. The inspection took place while the plane was preparing to carry out a cargo flight from Caracas to Lisbon, a connection that TAP has made weekly.
According to TAP, the flight was “canceled, with local authorities conducting investigations concerning products of a possible narcotic nature, which will have been found in the cargo hold, in a mandatory security control action for civil aviation under the responsibility of the National Guard. Bolivarian. (...) The three crew members of this cargo flight are at the hotel and TAP is providing all the collaboration and information to the local authorities ”.
A sergeant from the Bolivarian National Guard is said to have been involved in this drug trafficking attempt and is wanted by the Venezuelan authorities. According to the police, he had fled at the time of the inspection of the aircraft. His identity was not revealed.
According to local authorities, 124 cocaine bars found in the aircraft's equipment were confiscated by the Vargas Regional Anti-Drug Intelligence Unit in the north of Caracas.
