Air Montenegro, the new airline, plans to begin commercial operations on June 1. The company obtained its Air Operator Certificate (COA) becoming legally able to start. Part of the fast certification process was due to the foundations of the new company, which are in the bankrupt Montenegro Airlines, which did not resist the coronavirus.

Initially the company would be called ToMontenegro (or 2Montenegro), but it didn't last long. The name chosen, then, was Air Montenegro, and the company confirmed that it incorporated two Embraer E195 jets, which were purchased from GECAS in March and will fly from Podgorica and Tivat to Belgrade.

Belgrade was Montenegro Airlines' busiest and most profitable route. In 2019. Along with Air Serbia, 548,679 passengers between Belgrade, Podgorica and Tivat were registered. In 2020, that number was 154,677 passengers, despite flights having been suspended for five months.

Air Serbia is preparing for the launch of Air Montenegro and will increase its operations between Belgrade and Tivat to fifteen a week starting next week. Before the 2019 pandemic, a total of 55,758 passengers traveled between Podgorica and Ljubljana with Montenegro Airlines and Adria Airways, while the Montenegrin airline carried 27,569 passengers between Podgorica and Frankfurt in the same year. Both routes have remained without service since the end of Montenegro Airlines.

According to EX-YU Aviation, the first 419-AOA registration E195 is in Bratislava for painting, but the logo and livery are kept confidential. The second, registered 4O-AOB, is still parked and should arrive later. The government is also negotiating the acquisition of a third party. The origin of the planes is Montenegro Airlines.

Air Montenegro will retain the entire operation and personnel of the late Montenegro Airlines, but not its debts.
