During a flight on Wednesday, May 12, two planes still collided in the air. The accident happened near the Centennial Airport, in Denver, in the United States. One of the aircraft involved had a parachute system that resisted until landing, the other also resisted until landing, but without the system. Thus, none of the occupants was seriously injured.

The aircraft that suffered the accident were the twin-engine Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner SA-226TC Metro II, registered N280KL, and belonging to the airline Key Lime Air, and the private single engine Cirrus SR-22, registered N416DJ. The Metroliner was arriving at Denver Airport, the flight was cargo and only one crew member. The approach was visual and, at about 6400 feet, the plane was hit by the single engine, which was also making the approach. The single-engine, however, carried two crew members on board.
Cirrus had been instructed to proceed to land on parallel runway 17R, but there was a Cessna that would land there before his. The pilot was informed about the Metroliner that was arriving at runway 17L. The Cirrus pilot reported that he had spotted the other two planes.

There is still no further information on how the collision occurred, however, looking at the images, it appears that Cirrus hit the top of the back section of the Metroliner's fuselage.
The fuselage of the commercial twin-engine plane was heavily damaged, but managed to resist the damage and managed to stay in flight while the pilot declared an emergency to the Tower. "It looks like the right engine has failed, so I will continue to land here," said the pilot in an audio clip with air traffic control. The landing took place without any other problems.
Cirrus has an emergency parachute system, so the pilot triggered it and the plane continued down to a field near the airport.
“The NTSB is investigating the May 12, 2021 aerial collision involving a Metroliner and a Cirrus near Denver, Colorado. No injuries reported in connection with the collision. The initial report indicates that the collision occurred while the planes were landing. The NTSB will travel to the scene. ”, As reported by the accident investigation agency in the United States.
