British Airways, like other airlines, is making the boarding process as virtual as possible. This effort helps to cope with the pandemic by reducing physical contact to the maximum.

The company will test Qmatic's new intelligent queuing technology. The technology per application, which is optional for the passenger, will allow the customer to make a virtual queue at check in, through advance slot reservation. The airline will be the first in the industry to test such technology.

The new system will be tested by the company for three months before it is finally implemented and will initially be applied to flights departing from Heathrow terminal 5. Passengers will receive an email in advance asking them to book their check in time.

The moment it is the passenger's turn to check in, the application will ask the customer to go to the counter, where the service will take place.

“In this new era of covid-19, we know that customers have been traveling less often and, in most cases, are not traveling at all. Many people will not feel familiar with traveling at the airport, so we are committed to exploring how technology can simplify that experience for them. This tool allows you to plan your departure with a personalized check-in time. We believe that this, together with digital travel apps, will help to efficiently manage the flow of customers at the airport at any time, ”says British Airways Heathrow Head of Customer Experience, Declan Pollard.

The company has other systems per application that allow the reduction of physical contact. Another highlight of the company in this segment is its contribution to the development of the Iata Travel Pass application, which is a system that provides information on tests, vaccines and other matters relevant to covid 19.
