The United States Department of Transportation, in retaliation for the Argentine restriction measure of up to 66% on the number of flights of American airlines in its territory, also imposed restrictions on flights of Aerolíneas Argentinas. Argentina had taken such a decision to try to contain the advancement of coronavirus cases in the country, having restricted the number of flights, passengers and landing times.
The United States had challenged Argentina's decision, arguing that the measure was not scientifically or technically based, but they did not get a response that they considered satisfactory, so they opted for retaliation.
Therefore, for any new operations, Aerolíneas Argentinas will have to request approval from the Transportation Department in advance.
