Aerion Supersonic, which planned to make executive flights with jets that broke the sound barrier and were still silent, ended its activities before building the Aerion AS2, its first aircraft that would have production started in 2023 and would have its first delivery in 2027.

The company even created and patented the “cruise without boom” technology, in which the noise when crossing the sound barrier would be much less when using aerodynamic and fluid flow technologies, reducing the problem that plagued the Concorde. The plane would also have technologies to minimize the emission of pollutants.

The company has had several partnerships over almost 20 years: Boeing, General Eletric and Netjets. The Aerion AS2 would have a very expensive project to develop and would cost no less than $ 120 million per jet. The challenge of making the project economically viable was greater than that of finding technological solutions.

Billionaire Robert Bass, the company's founder, said the project would be canceled because it failed to raise enough funds to build the aircraft. "In today's financial environment, getting the programmed and necessary capital requirements is extremely challenging," Aerion said in a note.
