The new emissions standard established by the ICAO Aviation Environmental Protection Committee (CAEP) is now being used by the world's airworthiness regulatory authorities.

EASA (European Aviation Authority), which was the first authority to adopt the new standard, certified the Airbus A330-900neo in the new CO2 emission standards. The standard not only normalizes CO2 emissions, but also noise emissions. Thus, it should be applicable for new certified aircraft and for production aircraft. Existing airplanes must comply with other environmental measures previously established.

“Airbus is proud to be the first commercial aircraft manufacturer to receive EASA certification for the new CO2 emissions requirement. ICAO standards are important elements of the global action plan to regulate emissions from aircraft and engines and to help ensure a level playing field in the industry. For the A330neo in particular, this award demonstrates that this aircraft is in compliance with environmental regulations, "said Simone Rauer, director of Airbus' environmental roadmap.

The new environmental standards must be obeyed by all aircraft delivered as of January 2028.

The world aircraft fleet still has many old aircraft, so that only 12% of the planes are of the latest generation and are eligible for the new certification. Therefore, the renewal of the fleet is very necessary to meet, not only the emission standard, but the new safety technologies.
