The compulsory landing on the Ryanair plane caused very negative reactions, especially by members of the UN Security Council, who call for a more in-depth investigation. At the emergency meeting called for this Thursday, this matter will be discussed.

Estonia's ambassador to the UN, Sven Jurgenson, guarantees that there will be "sanction policies to ensure that the Belarusian authorities take responsibility for their actions". He condemned, "fully, this situation" which he said was "yet another blatant attempt by the Belarusian authorities to silence all the voices of the opposition".

Other countries are also opposed to Belarus's action, such as France and Ireland (EU member states currently on the rotating Security Council) along with previous members, Belgium and Germany. Current members of the Council of the United States, the United Kingdom and Norway also condemn Belarus' action.

The countries said the event was "a blatant attack on international civil aviation security and European security", which showed "a blatant disregard for international law".

At a press conference, the spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, questioned whether the purpose of an investigation is to verify the context of aviation and flight security, or from a purely political point of view?

But for an investigation at the level of the United Nations, the Russian endorsement is needed, and it is not known whether it will be obtained or not.

The European Council said on social media: "The Belarusian authorities must repeal recent legislative changes that add punitive measures to existing restrictions on media / meeting freedom, and release detained journalists."

Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Belarus reacted yesterday, challenging and condemning the protests of Western countries. Lukashenko continued to claim that there was a bomb threat on the plane, so the landing. The president still says that "evildoers" were "trying to strangle Belarus". He also called Pratasevich a "terrorist" who wanted to incite a "bloody rebellion" in the country.
