Today, May 31, is the World Flight Commissioner Day. The celebration originated with the founding of the International Association of Flight Stewards in 1973, and the date was made official in 1986.
Flight attendants are the professionals responsible for ensuring a safe flight, with cabin safety and the well-being of passengers. The commissioners did a brave job during the Covid-19 pandemic, acting as the front line, ensuring that the world could remain connected and, at the same time, safe, as part of the work of these professionals over the past year has also included ensuring the compliance with sanitary measures to contain the virus. In addition, during this time, the stewards also had to face undisciplined passengers who refused, for example, to wear masks and even attacked the professionals.
To become a flight attendant, one must undergo a series of training, including survival training in challenging locations and circumstances, before acquiring a license from ANAC, the National Civil Aviation Agency. In addition, it is also necessary to have technical and practical knowledge about aeronautics, such as notions of the plane and air navigation, so that they are able to carry out actions that ensure the safety of everyone on board.
