When the Air Force announced that it would reduce the number of KC-390 aircraft on order, controversy arose about the continuation of the C-390 Millenium program and the development of the plane, as well as questions about the impact this would have on the FAB.
According to an AERO Magazine publication, the program is already paid for and therefore the order change does not directly impact the program development costs. The costs still outstanding are related to the development of new operational skills.
The renegotiation of the number of aircraft ordered took place after a budget review carried out by the federal government. Today, the FAB expects to receive a maximum of 16 units of the KC-390.
In an interview with AERO Magazine, the Brazilian Air Force stated that “keeping its commitment to budget targets and in line with the current scenario, it decided to renegotiate the KC-390 Millennium aircraft production contract with Embraer. Among the points being discussed in the contractual reassessment is the final number of aircraft ordered. The budgetary impacts are under evaluation, but the reduction in the number of aircraft should not significantly affect the operational capacity of the FAB, considering that, after entry into service, with the practical and real observation of its capabilities and dispatchability, the aircraft delivered have exceeded project expectations. (...) This reduction will only be applied to the acquisition, having no impact on the operation of the aircraft”.
Information and interview are available on the AERO Magazine portal.
