The Dutch court will publicly bring to court four defendants in the murder of 298 people aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, which was shot down with a Russian missile over eastern Ukraine in mid-2014.

Judgment week should bring out bad and painful feelings about that day. However, family members say there is also a sense of justice being done.

Three Russian citizens and one Ukrainian have been accused of being the perpetrators and are being investigated. The four elements were senior members of militias in eastern Ukraine in 2014.

“It's a very difficult day for us. Now is the first day of the prosecution, and that's difficult,” says Evert van Zijtveld, a relative of four people on the flight. We would like to know who [the culprits] are, but… the court must decide, we trust that.”

The judges of the case, on Monday, 7th, started with the event's testing phase. Today, the 8th, they should start making a possible call for witnesses.

One of the judges involved in the case lost his 23-year-old son and girlfriend in the incident. He says the judgment must show the category of missile used and whether the four accused can be held responsible. However, it has already been concluded by investigators that the missile launcher used in the attack belonged to Russia's 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade.

The Dutch government blamed Moscow, which denied it, saying they were not responsible for the attack.
