The European holding IAG (International Airlines Group) emerged from the merger of British Airways and Iberia in 2011. However, British could be cut from IAG, according to Willie Walsh, former CEO of the airline between 2005 and 2011 and leader of the IAG group until 2020. According to him, this fact would not be likely to happen, but it is possible. This information was given on June 12, 2021.
The reason for the sale of British would be to ease the financial situation of the IAG group. “There is nothing that says IAG parts cannot be sold or cut. If a part of the business was underperforming or didn't make sense, then you could scrap that part of the business,” said Walsh.

The UK government ranks countries in color according to their level of coronavirus transmission. This division is done in a similar way to a traffic light: green (for countries with few restrictions), amber (for countries with many restrictions) and red (for countries where entry is not allowed by the government).
In this way, very few countries are on the green list (only 11) and have trips going smoothly. This severe restriction on passengers means that the airline industry in the UK remains very affected.
Since British Airways hoped to find relief this year, but did not find it, difficulties continue, and that would be the main reason for the split with the IAG.
