The Russian Navy is conducting operations off the coast of Hawaii. According to the Russians, it is the largest exercise in the Pacific since the Cold War, involving ships, planes, submarines and long-range bombers. In response, three F-22 jets armed with missiles were launched from the Pearl Harbor-Hickam Joint Base (Hawaii) on Sunday.

Multifunction fighters were launched from Hawaii in response to Russian bombers, but the aircraft did not enter the air defense identification zone and were not intercepted, the CBS agency said. "The exercise was planned but moved closer to Hawaii in response to the Russian exercise."

The event took place before the meeting of US President Joe Biden with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Indo-Pacific Command is monitoring Russian ships operating in international waters in the Western Pacific. As part of normal day-to-day operations, we closely track all vessels in the Indo-Pacific area of "u200b"u200boperations through maritime patrol aircraft, surface ships and joint capabilities.”, said Navy Captain Mike Kafka.

In any case, authorities have not revealed why the three Hawaiian Air National Guard F-22 fighters were scheduled for irregular air patrol. Two F-22 Raptors from the Pearl Harbor-Hickam Joint Base were launched at approximately 4:00 pm. A little later, at 5pm, a third was released.

No military clearly explains the reason for what happened, but they confirm that it was not training and that it was requested by the FAA.

When asked about the flight of the three planes, the US Indo-Pacific command said there had been a request by the FAA to conduct an irregular air patrol and the situation be resolved, causing the Stratotanker KC-fighter and refueling plane. 135, leave the base. More details about this were not said.

The FAA was also subjective in its response: "We have a close working relationship with the military," said spokesman Ian Gregor.

Automotive magazine The Drive reports that this mystery is unusual, as even when Russian bombers approach the US coast, the US military is widely open about what has happened.

The magazine speculates that there may be national security issues involved that would make an immediate and detailed response problematic.
