Today, 17, China launched a manned spacecraft for the first time in five years. The Shenzhou-12 spacecraft was launched to Tiangong orbital station with three astronauts aboard for a three-month mission. Currently, Tiangong is under construction. China Central Television broadcast the launch of the rocket that took the spacecraft into orbit.

The rocket in question is the Long March 2F, and the launch took place at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu, northwestern China.

The Shenzhou-12 has successfully docked with the core module of the Tianhe space station, according to CMSA, China's Space Agency for Manned Missions.

China's manned space mission program has released a statement saying that “about 573 seconds after launch, the Shenzhou-12 manned spacecraft separated from the rocket and entered its predetermined orbit. Three cosmonauts were successfully sent into space, the crew is in good condition. The launch was considered successful."

The core module Tianhe (Celestial Harmony in Chinese) was placed into orbit at the end of April as part of its first Tiangong space mission.

Chinese media also reported that twelve missions will be needed to build the space station in lower Earth orbit, and construction is expected to be completed in 2022.
