As part of the fleet renewal and cost-cutting measures that would inevitably come because of the pandemic, the German company Lufthansa put its Airbus A340-600 up for sale. The company has officially placed twelve aircraft of the model for sale.
As newer and more efficient aircraft of the A350 model arrive at the company, the older ones run out of place in the fleet.
However, it will not be easy to sell the aircraft, since the four-engine jets are falling into disuse, even more so because they are old and economically unviable compared to newer planes.
Early on in the pandemic, in April 2020, Lufthansa gradually shipped its A340-600 model aircraft to Spain. Over time, the company ended up completely removing the quad jet from operation.
The Aero Telegraph Portal has reported that a Lufthansa spokesperson has confirmed that the company will sell all of its A340s, which range in age from 12 to 18 years. However, so far, the company has not disclosed the value of the aircraft or if anyone is interested.
