The Covid-19 pandemic continues to severely affect the aviation market. Because of the new Delta variant of the coronavirus, the UK has re-established restrictions on travelers from several countries, causing a third national aviation blockade, with few destinations still receiving flights.

According to Reuters, British pilots are pressuring the government against this decision, calling for it to “save” the summer, as well as asking for clearer travel guidelines and the provision of direct financial support for job creation.

Brian Strutton, Secretary General of the British Airline Pilots Association, said: “The government has to decide whether this summer will break the UK travel industry.

Pilots are meeting with politicians across the UK to urge them to press the government to act now and save not just the summer but the future of UK aviation and travel.”

Given the proximity of the holiday season, the government of Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is studying ways to reopen the borders, even considering releasing the quarantine for adults already vaccinated for some destinations.

Still, the prime minister announced that this year will continue to be a difficult year for travel.
