On June 30, Germany's defense minister signed a letter of acceptance for up to 5 units of the Boeing p8 model to Poseidon, a multi-mission maritime surveillance aircraft.
With this order, Germany becomes the 8th user of this multi-mission aircraft joining the United States, Australia, India, United Kingdom, Norway, South Korea and New Zealand.
"Boeing is honored to provide Germany with the world's most capable aircraft for maritime surveillance," said Michael Ostetter, vice president of Boeing Defense Space and Security in Germany. "We will continue to work with the US Government, the German government and industry to establish a robust and sustainable package that will ensure the German Navy's p8 fleet is available for Missions."
According to Boeing, the P8 Poseidon "offers a unique multi-mission capability and is the only aircraft in service that meets all the maritime challenges faced by European nations, being used worldwide with more than 130 units in service and more than 300,000 collective flight hours". "The P8-A is vital to global anti-submarine combat, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and search and rescue operations," Boeing continues.

With the P8-A we will expand our collaboration with German companies, create new jobs and contribute to long-term economic growth.
several German companies already supply parts for the P8-A program, among others the Lufthansaa Technique and several local companies that collaborate with systems integration, training, support and sustainable work.
By working with local suppliers, Boeing believes it contributes to the support, training and maintenance solutions that will bring high operational availability to German Navy missions.
