Largest British airline compensates passengers for leaking confidential data

The conflict between British Airways and no fewer than 420,000 of its users may be drawing to a close. It all started in June 2018 when all these people's confidential data were illegally accessed over the internet without the company noticing. Only in August of the same year, when the company was informed of what had happened by other entities, it became aware of the incident.
The airline, the UK's largest, has already been fined £20 million by the Information Commissioner's Office, ICO. This amount can be considered even low compared to the £183 million that would be applied to the company by the ICO. This however managed to reverse the situation not only due to its legal claims but also because of the crisis caused by the pandemic which led the authorities to waive a greater financial penalty.
The legal consultancy PGMBM informed that the amount that will be paid by the company as compensation is confidential, but also informed that despite having agreed with the payments, the carrier considers that it has no civil liability in the case.
Of the total of 420,000 injured passengers, at least 77,000 were more severely affected as their names, addresses and payment methods were exposed to intruders.
This includes credit card numbers, passwords and access codes which could have caused serious harm to these people.
The company thus appears to open up a possibility of recovering from this regrettable incident and sees its shares rising slightly at this time.
