The Antonov AN-26, which was flying Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Palana, lost contact with the control tower and collided with a hill. The accident occurred on July 6th, with 28 people on board. The twin-engine turboprop had its wreckage found about 4 kilometers from the airport where it should have landed, on the Kamchatka peninsula, in Russia's far east.
"Rescue teams of 26 people in all-terrain vehicles are promptly on the scene," the ministry's press office said. However, the progress of the searches is difficult, since the location of the accident is not favorable, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to information, the fuselage is on the coast, the rest of the aircraft is in the coastal zone. At the time of the crash, the weather was cloudy, and the plane disappeared from radar a few minutes before landing, about 9 km from its destination, according to Russian authorities. Antonov was operated by a local company in Kamchatka.
"The plane interrupted radio communication as it was about to land. There was no report of any problems on board," said a source from the regional emergency services, quoted by the official TASS agency.
22 passengers and six crew were aboard the aircraft, including the head of local government in Palana, Olga Mokhireva.
“The plane's wreckage was found near the village of Palana. Before the crash, it collided with a hill, which led to the plane's destruction,” according to information.
Also, according to the source, there are no survivors of the Antonov crash.
