Porter Airlines, a company headquartered in Toronto, Canada, announced a plan to expand the destinations served and, consequently, its fleet. The company announced a firm order for 30 aircraft and the right to purchase another 50. The aircraft in question is Embraer's E195-E2 jet.

Porter Airlines' investment in aircraft should heat up the Canadian market, raising the level of services by increasing competition and generating up to 6,000 new jobs. As for the destinations served, Porter intends to operate in those popular for business and leisure. Destinations are across Canada, USA, Mexico and the Caribbean from Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Porter Airlines will be launch customer of the Embraer jet family in North America. The order will enter Embraer's backlog for the second quarter of 2021 and has an estimated value of US$5.82 billion, with all options being exercised.

This announcement confirms that Porter Airlines is Embraer's new customer, which had already announced, in May, that there was a large order for the jet, but without confirming the customer.

“This is a turning point in Porter's history. Today we lay the groundwork for a new, more comprehensive service for our customers, delivered in true Porter comfort style. The Embraer E2, with its spacious cabin, quieter operations and no middle seats, delivers the refined and comfortable experience on which Porter has built its reputation for service and quality. Our customers will love the experience on this jet as much as we do at Porter,” said Michael Delucci, President and CEO of Porter Airlines.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2022. The E195-E2 has between 120 and 146 seats. The aircraft configuration plans have not yet been announced, but with it, it will be possible to satisfactorily meet the destinations. Rival Airbus A220 has dominated orders in North America so far.

“With this order for up to 80 of our largest aircraft, the E2 is making an impressive debut in North America. In addition to being the quietest and most fuel-efficient aircraft in the segment, the E195-E2 also stands out for its excellent operational performance,” said Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.
