Since the last July 3rd, Azul has been able to operate at Santos Dumont Airport, even in unfavorable weather scenarios. The company was approved by ANAC in this regard, in order to make life easier for passengers.
This is expected to reduce the number of times flights need to be diverted to Galeão by 23%, if bad weather conditions occur. However, certification is not for all of the company's planes, only those of the Airbus A320neo model.
"Considered the most demanding among Anac's certifications, the RNP-AR 0.1 leaves Azul's Airbus fleet much less exposed to alternating flights due to bad weather, especially during winter, when there is the presence of low clouds around the airport Rio de Janeiro," said Azul in a note.

Azul also intends to expand the regulation for the new fleet of Embraer E195-E2 jets, with the same intention.
"Getting this authorization was fundamental for the operation at Santos Dumont, as it expands our operational level, maintains aircraft safety and makes the Azul experience for those who fly much more complete," says the general manager of Flight Standards and Training from Azul, Guilherme Holtmann, who led the training for the certification of the aircraft.
The new procedure, contrary to what it may seem, maintains total security. The Airbus A320neo is now authorized to maintain higher precision approaches up to a height of up to 300 feet.
Without approval, however, approaches could only be made up to 950 feet. In other words, landings start to occur in conditions of low visibility.

“We complete all stages of the process in less than four months, before the deadline established by the company's executive committee. We performed more than 75 commercial flights simulating the procedure and trained around 170 pilots also in the simulators until final approval by ANAC”, celebrates Guilherme Holtmann, Azul's General Manager of Flight Standards and Training.
