China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) fighter-bombers tested the placement of sea mines in the Bohai Sea in a ship blockade exercise, in order to obstruct the navigation of possible enemy vessels. According to the Chinese newspaper Global Times, several exercises were carried out, also testing the resistance of the fighter pilots, the versatility of the aircraft and the logistical support of the base. The exercise was carried out by the Teatro Norte Command of the ELP.

JH-7 fighter-bombers were used, which performed at low altitudes so as not to be revealed by radar and to be able to enter enemy areas, launching maritime mines in certain areas.

Wang Wei, head of the aviation group, said the exercise simulated "a realistic battlefield focused on stealth training, penetration of low-altitude defenses and the use of multiple types of ammunition."

Naval mines, placed by fighter-bombers, serve as an important blockade strategy for large maritime areas, which will be significant in case of possible foreign intervention in Taiwan. According to the Global Times, an expert said that such a measure, by detaining the opposing vessels, would give time for Chinese troops to reach the island.
