Iberia, the company that bought the Spanish Air Europa announced, on the 19th of this month, that it will increase by 20 days the deadline for the delivery of the necessary documents that the European Commission needs to analyze the purchase. Thus, the decision on the acquisition takes place on November 25 this year.

The European Union launched an investigation into the acquisition after the IAG, the group that owns Iberia, did not submit the necessary documents for the superficial assessment until 22 June.
“IAG, which owns Iberia and Vueling, among others, and Air Europa are leading airlines in Spain. They are also the main connectivity providers between Spain, the rest of Europe and Latin America”, said the commission's vice president, Margrethe Vestager.
According to what the European Commission announced, problems were found on 70 airlines' routes. Iberia, in turn, said it would respond to the Commission route by route. This seems to be the reason why the airline asked for the longest time.
"We will carefully assess whether the proposed transaction would negatively affect competition on domestic, short and long-haul routes to and from Spain, possibly leading to higher prices and reduced quality for travelers."
