A Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor crashed and was destroyed in November 2020. The crash took place at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. The cause of the accident was a maintenance error. The error was not disclosed, but it is known that it happened after an aircraft wash.
“On takeoff, the pilot noticed a warning from the flight control system and decided to continue with takeoff,” the spokesman said. “Shortly after the aircraft took off, the pilot began having problems controlling the aircraft and declared an emergency. While a recovery plan was being coordinated, the pilot continued to have problems with the aircraft and was ejected,” said the Air Combat Command spokesman.

What happened was that the aircraft's control inputs were affected during a flight in a routine training. Only the fighter pilot of the 43rd Fighter Squadron in the 325th Fighter Wing was on board and suffered minor injuries.
The F-22 is an expensive fighter both to purchase and to maintain, so the cost of the accident was in the order of $201 million. Almost half of the incidents and accidents that occurred with the F-22 in 2020 were in the 325th Fighter Wing, where this accident occurred.
