A man who was on a vessel from Malta, 120 nautical miles off the coast (about 216 km), needed help because he had abdominal pain, vomiting and weakness. The vessel's crew called for help.

The Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center (SALVAERO) Curitiba activated the third Squadron of the Eighth Aviation Group (3rd/8th GAV) – FAB's Puma Squadron, headquartered in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), and aboard the H-36 helicopter Caracal, took off for Canoas Air Base (BACO), in Rio Grande do Sul (RS). The rescue mission was carried out on Wednesday (11), at 7:35 am.

The patient was picked up by the SAR (Search and Rescue) team and placed on a stretcher. “The patient was monitored, evaluated, and then venipuncture and analgesia were performed to improve the condition. Upon arrival, we deliver the patient with relief from abdominal pain and more stable. Feeling of accomplishment, because we train so much so that at this moment we can fulfill our mission with excellence”, says Major Médica Carla.

The crew of the aircraft that performed the rescue reported a feeling of gratitude and emotion and added that training for this type of mission is extensive.

On the ground, the patient was delivered to a Samu ambulance and sent to the Nossa Senhora das Graças Hospital, in Canoas, to receive specialized care.
