Porto Alegre Airport received a runway expansion and a new cargo terminal. The investments were not foreseen in the original concession contract. With the extension of the runway to the order of 900 m and the new cargo terminal, the airport will be able to handle products for import and export, and can triple the cargo capacity.
At the inauguration ceremony, which took place virtually yesterday, the 11th, the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, said: “This also shows the success of our concession program, which provides this type of private investment, not originally planned. in contract. We are proud to have among our concessionaires a company of this level of quality and commitment to Brazil: it motivates us to move forward in our modeling of concessions”.
The airport is a logistical complex aimed at carrying out cargo operations, and construction began by Fraport Brasil – Porto Alegre in June 2020. According to the National Civil Aviation Secretary, Roney Glanzmann, the improvements must be made in response to demand , with benefits for the concessionaire and for the public interest, as they generate greater revenue and improve the efficiency of the service.
