Recently, China has devoted efforts to developing its aircraft carrier night combat capabilities, as noted during the most recent voyage of the aircraft carrier Liaoning, when the Liberation Army's Naval Aviation fighter pilot-instructors Popular (ELP) received certification for night operations on aircraft carriers after successfully operating and landing J-15 fighters on the Liaoning flight deck in adverse weather conditions at night.
The Global Times reports that such action will accelerate pilot training for night combat operations, as well as increase pilot efficiency.
A Chinese official stated that "the biggest challenge of landing on an aircraft carrier at night is low visibility, with no reference point around it, relying only on the instruction lights on the carrier to land accurately on the small deck. flight [...]".
About 60% of pilots from other navies operating aircraft carriers (US and France, for example) are qualified for night operations, according to military expert Yin Zhuo.
