On June 10, 2020, the plane to reach the important mark of being certified was the Pipistrel Velis Electro electric, and it remains the only electric in the world to receive certification.

The plane continues to be successful around the world, now in the US market. The aircraft was acquired by Florida Tech, with its maiden flight being last week. Florida Tech was also the first customer of the plane in the country. However, the tram is not yet certified in the US, so its flights are being in the experimental category.

The maiden flight lasted just over 22 minutes, using about 33% battery power, so the operating cost was $1.03. These data are encouraging, so the FAA is also interested in the plane. the agency is in the process of awarding an $85,000 contract to Florida Tech to provide data for the single-engine's first 50 hours of flight.

“We are happy and proud to announce that, after Taurus Electro and Alpha Electro, the Pipistrel Velis Electro is already Pipistrel's third series-produced electric aircraft model now flying in the USA. Pipistrel will continue to work with the FAA to identify pathways to recognize EASA type certification in the US to enable commercial operations and pilot training with Velis Electro – which is already possible in all EASA member states and countries where EASA certifications are valid”, says Ivo Boscarol, CEO of Pipistrel.
