China Southern Cargo, part of China Southern Airlines, received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Central-South China Civil Aviation Administration earlier this month, according to information on its official social networks .
The company will operate both domestic and international cargo flights aboard its Boeing 777 freighters in slots provided by its parent company, China Southern, which already operates 14 Boeing 777F and two 747-400F.
Shantou Zhang Wei will head the division, with about 30 crew, and the company will arrive as part of the government's proposed reforms.
China is changing its state-owned companies to a mixed ownership model, where the state remains a shareholder in the company, but does not manage it.
Other companies have already undergone such changes, such as what happened with Air China in 2018, when the company announced that it would sell its 51% stake in Air China Cargo to sister unit Capital Holding. And in 2017, China Eastern Air Holding (CEA Holding) sold a 50% stake in Eastern Air Logistics, which in turn owns 83% of freighter operator China Eastern, to four companies.
At the time, in just seven months, the company had its cargo volumes increased by 9.6% (860,110 tons) compared to the previous year.
