Ethiopian Airlines Group and Boeing signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of transforming Ethiopia into an aviation hub for all of Africa. The agreement was announced today, August 30th.
The memorandum calls for the partners to work on industrial development, aviation training, educational partnership and leadership development over three years to transform Ethiopia into the great center of aviation.
According to Ethiopian, the sides have already established teams and developed strategies for implementing the partnership. Important milestones have already been registered.
“I am very excited not only to sign this historic MoU with our long-time aviation partner Boeing, but also to implement milestones. We have been working collaboratively with Boeing on different large-scale aviation projects for over 70 years to serve the African continent and this partnership expands and builds our capacity in various fields. I am firmly convinced that with our dedication to its implementation, the MoU will successfully achieve its goal of positioning Ethiopia as the continent's aviation hub,” said Ethiopian Airlines CEO Tewolde GebreMariam.
“We highly value the critical role of our US partner companies in achieving our goals and will continue to work with key players in US aviation such as Boeing, GE, Pratt and Whitney and Collins Aerospace in our journey towards excellence in aviation.” finished.
Boeing, in turn, recognizes Ethiopian Airlines as the global aviation leader on the continent. The partnerships aim to make the Ethiopian Aviation Academy recognized as a global standard for aviation training. Boeing will develop Ethiopia's manufacturing capability and aviation after-sales service.
