The US purchased 26 units of the Embraer-developed attack plane, the A-29 Super Tucano, which is made under license in the US by the Sierra Nevada. Units acquired by the United States were to be used by the Afghan Armed Forces after the departure of US troops.
However, with the departure of the United States, the Taliban faced little resistance from the troops of Afghanistan and took over much of the country, including the planes. Some of the planes were taken to Uzbekistan before the Taliban took over. Still, photos of the extremists beside the plane were recorded.
According to The Sunday Times, there are 23 planes of the model in the possession of extremists, three of which were taken to Uzbekistan (one of which suffered an accident).
In addition, the portal shows that the group took possession of other aircraft as well, such as 4 C-130 Hercules cargo planes, 28 Cessna C208 Caravan turboprops and 10 Cessna AC208, in addition to rotary-wing aircraft.
