The United States Bankruptcy Court in New York has determined that the lease acquisition of a further twelve Boeing 737 MAX aircraft is feasible. In July this year, the company and Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) signed a letter of intent to carry out the deal
The agreement, however, has been postponed several times as Aeroméxico has not been authorized to do business since it entered the voluntary financial restructuring process under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Law.
This agreement provides for 12 Boeing 737 MAX 8 units. Thus, future aircraft deliveries will total 40. The airline is expected to receive 32 Boeing 737 MAX (a mix between the -8 and -9 models), four 737-800 and four 787-9 Dreamliners.
Some planes have already been received by the company, such as a Boeing 737 MAX 9. However, Aeroméxico's original order was dropped. Before the covid-19 pandemic, the airline would receive 54 Boeing 737 MAX units.
As Mexico is the third country with the most recovery in the world, Mexican companies have increased their share of the domestic market. Aeromexico, in turn, seeks greater participation.
The new aircraft are expected to be delivered starting in October, giving more modernity to the company's older Boeing 737 NG fleets.
