In retaliation for the ISIS-K attack on Kabul airport in Afghanistan, the US carried out an anti-terrorist air strike in Nangarhar province. Two leaders of the Islamic State branch in Afghanistan were killed in the drone strikes. Another leader of the group was injured. According to the US military, everyone was involved in the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport. An impact from a rocket explosion would have caused an explosion in a residence.
“US military forces conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner. The unmanned air strike took place in Nangahar Province, Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we've killed the target. We don't know of any civilian casualties,” said Captain Bill Urban of the US Navy, a spokesman for the US Central Command, in an Aug. 27 statement following the Reaper drone attack.
In the Islamic State bomb attack at Kabul airport, more than 100 people lost their lives, including 13 US military personnel. The last time the US military lost so many soldiers was 10 years ago, when the Taliban shot down a CH-47D Chinook transport helicopter near Kabul, killing at least 30 people on board.
Islamic State fights against US forces and takes responsibility for the attack in Afghanistan. According to the Associated Press agency, the Taliban confirmed that a US attack had hit a suicide bomber who was in a car and who intended to carry out an attack at the airport in Kabul. The Islamic-khorasan state is also an enemy of the Taliban.
