The International Air Transport Association (IATA) conducted a survey and said on Thursday that the travel rules regarding covid-19 are confused, so opening borders is being confused and is not bringing benefits to the country. sector in Europe.
“Experience during the European summer shows that a standard digital certificate is not enough: the travel processes around Covid-19 must also be harmonized and smoothed. We ask European states to sort out the current mess and give pressured passengers more certainty about their travel plans,” said Rafael Schvartzman, IATA regional vice president for Europe.
IATA stressed that the standards should be the same everywhere in Europe, however, this is not what you see as there are many differences across the European Union.
The data shown by IATA in this regard are: • for Passenger Tracking Forms (PLFs), 45% accept online, while 33% accept paper and online submissions. But 11% accept only paper and another 11% have no locator form; • 19% ask for tests even for children; • 30% of those who use the EU Covid Digital Certificate (DCC) do not accept the quick test; • 41% do not allow travelers who are not vaccinated and are not on the White List of EU locations to enter.
IATA's recommendations are to standardize travel rules in the European Union.

“How can passengers travel with confidence when the rules are so different in every country in the European Union? They cannot be sure whether their children need to be tested or not, or whether they need to fill out a paper form, online or not, said Rafael Schvartzman, IATA regional vice president.
The recommendations addressed are to align with health requirements, including:
• acceptance of rapid tests in place of PCR tests, which are more expensive and unnecessary; • exemption for minors from testing and vaccination requirements; • allow travelers from low-risk countries to enter Europe without restrictions, with the requirement of a negative test for unvaccinated travelers, as well as the opening of borders.
According to IATA, only the Netherlands, Estonia, Slovenia and Spain are leading the way in aligning these policies.
