After the fatal accidents with the Boeing 737 MAX, Ethiopian Airlines reached an out-of-court agreement with the US aircraft manufacturer to return to flying the model in early 2022.

The company's CEO, Tewolde GebreMariam, said Ethiopian Airlines would be the last to resume flights with the MAX, even after the plane was cleared by regulators. However, after several investigations and modifications, Tewolde is convinced that the plane is safe.

The agreement made is confidential, but the company considers the matter closed.

"I can confirm that we are committed to the Boeing 737 Max [...] by the end of the year or early next year we will be flying."

After the fatal accident that occurred on March 10, 2019 and left 157 people dead, the companies involved stopped flying the MAX, as well as all companies that operated the plane throughout the world.

The accident, which occurred in Indonesia, was extensively investigated, and what was discovered was that the aircraft did not correctly interpret the data received, as well as the flight system, leading to loss of control of the plane and tragedies.

After obtaining its recertification, several companies have already resumed flights with the plane, such as Gol, which was the first company in the world to make the resumption.

Meanwhile, A Lion Air, for example, has suspended all deliveries of the model. In addition, the plane remains uncertified in Indonesia.
