A step in electrification

Wright, an American company, has developed an engine that supposedly can provide performance similar to that of an Airbus A320

With greener solutions every day, the industry has just received another engine that can supposedly revolutionize the aviation sector. The American electrical solutions company carried out research for an engine, which is in the testing phase, which can develop up to 2 MW (about 2700 hp). The engine is half the size of engines with this same capacity.

The electric motor can reach these numbers thanks to the high-performance inverter developed by Wright. The engine, which works at much higher voltages than other thrusters with this application, in theory, can reach 2 MW even at high altitudes.

The engine has great modularity and can be applied to more than 150 aircraft in the ten-engine configuration and to 50 turboprop models in the two-engine configuration.

Its first use will be in the Wright 1 plane, thus, making the plane supposedly capable of having 20 MW, which could make it with power close to that of the Airbus A320. However, in theory, the plane could carry ten more passengers than the competitor of the European manufacturer.
