This Tuesday, September 14, Qatar announced that it will leave the management of Kabul airport if there is not an operating agreement with all the parties involved, including the Taliban.

Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said at a press conference: “We have to ensure that everything is dealt with clearly (...) We cannot assume any responsibility for the airport if these issues are not resolved. At the moment, the conditions are still under negotiation”.

After the withdrawal of US troops on Aug. 30, Doha became a key intermediary in Afghanistan, assisting in the withdrawal of thousands of foreigners and Afghans, negotiating with the Taliban, and helping with operations at the Kabul airport. Since then, Qatar Airways has also played an important role in organizing several flights to Kabul to transport aid, foreigners and representatives from Doha.

More than 120,000 people were evacuated from Afghanistan by air after the Taliban's resumption of power.
