Last Saturday, September 11, a KC-390 Millenium of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) left Brasilia carrying around five tons of donations to Haiti, including medicines, food, solar panels and water purifiers. Last month, the country was hit by an earthquake and a tropical cyclone.

The flight is part of the Multidisciplinary Humanitarian Mission, triggered by inter-ministerial action between the Ministries of Justice and Public Security, Defense, Foreign Affairs, Health and Regional Development. In the last month, the Mission has transported more than 10 tons of medical supplies and equipment to Haiti.

Marcelo Baumbach, Ambassador of Brazil in Haiti, stated that “Brazil has a history of collaboration with Haiti and continues to maintain the standard of quality care, strengthening ties even more. After the earthquake, the entire infrastructure of the country was severely compromised, but our staff did an exceptional job during their time here.”

Upon returning, the KC-390 brought back to Brazil the soldiers who were helping in the country. Marcelo Teixeira Dantas, Military Fire Colonel and commander of the mission's force, said: "We came prepared for any kind of support, but when we got here we saw that our help was very important to be able to reduce the suffering of the population."

The mission was carried out in the city of Les Cayes, 200 kilometers from the capital Port-au-Prince. According to Armin Braun, General Coordinator of the Humanitarian Mission, of the Ministry of National Integration, the work was carried out in conjunction with envoys from other countries, such as the United States, Mexico, Canada and Argentina. “We provide assistance work, helping with the construction of shelters, distribution of supplies, evaluation of buildings and medical care. We also train Haitians to use the water purifiers we brought and donated to the country,” says Braun.
